Here is a nice ego booster for us all courtesy of my cognitive psychology class!

My professor asked the class to consider a proof of the fact that the product of two consecutive numbers is always even. He said that a novice would work backwards from the goal of an even number and try to manipulate that into consecutive numbers, while an expert will take numbers of the form 2n and 2n+1, multiply them, and manipulate them into an even number (working forward from the givens).

So if that is how you would approach that proof, you are an expert according to an accredited cognitive psychologist!
