I thought it would be neat to show some graphs involving lattice points in chess. Here are are the 3 graphs I found on wikipedia that show the valid moves for the knight, king, and rook pieces.
(I could not embed the images because of the file type. Anyways, the rook one is pretty neat).
Then I thought about computers processing this information against players, and recalled this match:
"Deep Blue versus Garry Kasparov was a pair of famous six-game Human-computer chess matches played between the IBM supercomputer Deep Blue and the World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov. The first match was played in February 1996 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Kasparov won the match 4–2, losing one game, drawing in two and winning three. A rematch, which has been called "the most spectacular chess event in history", was played in 1997 – this time Deep Blue won 3½–2½."
